What is TinkerSub?

TinkerSub is a subtitle editor built around three panels. Start here to learn what each one does.

Three panels

Each panel has one job. Open the matching guide when you want the full details.

  • Subtitle Panel — edit cues, timing, and text, then save or export
  • Video Panel — watch media, scrub the timeline, and preview cues on video
  • Control Panel — run Transcribe, Translate, Extract, and other tools

Useful settings

A few choices that make the editor feel right. Layout and browse mode are in the Subtitle Panel header.

  • Layout — List left, Video top, or Compare
  • Browse mode — Select, Seek, or Preview
  • Subtitle style — how subtitles look on the video (Control Panel → Style)

Useful shortcuts

A few keys that help when editing cues.

  • Enter · \ — move between cues and seek + preview
  • ↑ · ↓ — browse cues without preview
  • Space · Right-click timeline — play / pause (Space when focus is outside a text box)
  • Shift+Enter — insert a new line in a text box
